Recovery Console


Supported by Windows 2000 and Windows XP, the windows recovery console is a DOS-like command environment which allows you to diagnose, repair system errors and retrieve lost data.


Usage of Console


To do this, follow these steps:


For Windows 2000 or XP Users,


  • Bootup with the Windows 2000 or XP CD. You may need to select the correct boot device.
  • When a message prompts you to hit any key to boot from CD, hit any key
  • At the Windows Setup menu, press R to enter the recovery console

  • Select the Windows Installation to log on to
  • When prompted, enter your administrator password and hit Enter

    If you do not have an administrator password, leave it blank.
  • Hit Enter to enter into the command prompt
